What is the CKC/AKC and what does it mean ?
Canadian Kennel Club and American Kennel Club are the oldest and largest registry for purebred dogs in North America. The only way to get pure bred puppies are if both parents are registered purebreds. The only way you can know if a dog is purebred is by its genetic history, its ancestors and lineage. If you purchase a puppy that is Canadian or American Kennel Club registered, you will receive an authentic certificate issued by the CKC or AKC.
If my dog is registered with the CKC can it participate in dog shows ?
If you have been granted a full registration, then technically yes, however only specific puppies from each litter will exhibit the qualities needed for a successful showing.
Are all registered dogs show potential dogs?
No. Even if your dog is registered, it does not necessarily mean it is of show quality. In every litter there are puppies that will exhibit various characteristics required for show. Just as you vary in appearance from your brothers and sisters, pups of a same litter can look very different. If you are looking for a show potential, please contact us to discuss further.
What is a teacup chihuahua?
Teacup chihuahua is not a technical term. All chihuahuas are of the toy breed and can vary in size and weight. We refer to a pup as a teacup only when it is 3lbs and under!
Are chihuahuas hypo allergic ?
Hypo allergic means you will be less likely to suffer from allergies due to pet dander. Chihuahuas are not hypo allergic.
Do they shed a lot?
Short coat chihuahuas tend to shed more than the long coat chihuahuas. Chihuahuas will also shed their puppy fuzz and shed seasonally or after giving birth. There will be occasional shedding, but due to their small size you may not even notice it.
Do chihuahuas bark a lot?
From experience, short coat varieties bark slightly more than the long coat dogs. Neither bark continuously, and only occasionally to warn you someone is at the door! Purebred chihuahuas are actually very intelligent and can be trained easily. Continuous yapping is unacceptable.
How many times a day does my puppy have to eat?
As a puppy a least 3 meals a day to keep the puppies glucose levels up. As adults twice a day once in the morning and once in the evening. Fresh water should be available all day.
How many times should I let my dog go out to go potty?
It depends on the age of the dog. A puppy should be let out a minimum of 4 times a day in combination with your training schedule if you are using training pads potty mats etc. As an adult dog a very minimum of 3 times a day, but again this also depends on your training schedule and daily routine.
Should I let my teacup chihuahua out in the winter to go potty?
Yes, only for a short amount of time and never left unattended in the cold. Be sure your dog is dressed in appropriate attire for the weather. Shovel a little spot in the backyard for potty breaks. Use your common sense and keep your pup indoors in extreme weather.
What is a micro chip and what does it do?
A microchip is a small electronic chip the size of a grain of rice implanted into the base of the dogs neck via a sterilized surgical needle. This chip is permanent and contains your information as an owner, the dogs information as well as emergency contact information. Should you loose your dog, a vet or shelter will be able to read the chips information and contact you. CKC registered dogs must be implanted with a microchip for identification.
Should I spay/neuter my dog/ what is the difference?
Yes, generally all pet companions we recommend strongly to be spayed /neutered. Depending on the specific pup you have received, we will advise wither to spay or neuter. We will discuss your situation on a case by case basis if you have purchased a pup for show or specifically to bred. We only sell show/breeding dogs to other registered breeders. When you spay or neuter your pet it chihuahua, you are eligible for a $50 rebate from us.
